Lilian Lilian Lilian

Lilian is a 0-4-0ST 'Quarry Hunslet' (Penrhyn Port class). Lilian worked for most of her life at Port Penrhyn and was built by the Hunslet Engine Company of Leeds in 1883 as No. 317. During her life at Penrhyn she was fitted with new fireboxes in 1908 and 1929, and in 1952 recieved the boiler from her sister locomotive "Winifred". Lilian was withdrawn from service in 1955 when her boiler was condemned.

In 1965, she was rescued by Nigel Bowman and transported back to his home in Guildford, Surrey, where she was rebuilt in 1966/67. From 1968 she was in running order and occasionally steamed on a length of track at a friend's farm.

Lilian was moved to Launceston in 1983 and operated the first passenger train on Boxing Day 1983. She has been fitted with air brake equipment, and a new boiler was fitted in 1993. As of July 2008, Lilian also runs with a tender constructed at the railway.
